Dazu Rock Carvings is a general term for the rock carvings (grottoes) with Buddhist themes in Dazu District, Chongqing, including Baoding Mountain, Beishan Mountain, Nanshan Mountain, Shimen Mountain, Shizhuan Mountain, etc. Here you can enjoy the well-preserved stone carving art from the Tang and Song dynasties. So far, there are as many as 75 rock carvings announced as cultural relics protection units, with more than 50,000 statues.

The scenic area is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. The ticket price is around 115 CNY for adults, including tickets and sightseeing bus. Students can enjoy a half-price discount with valid ID.

Baodingshan Rock Carvings

Baodingshan Rock Carvings, constructed by the famous monk Zhao Zhifeng in the Song Dynasty, is one of the most famous Tantric Buddhist shrines in China. The centerpiece is the U-shaped Grant Buddha Bay, also known as Dafowan. Nearly ten thousand statues are carved along the cliffs, depicting Buddhist scripture stories. Beishan Rock Carvings
